This writer decided not to focus much on slave labor as in the past but to focus on skilled labor that African Americans are doing today. Jacqueline Jernigan Hughes has worked as a skilled laborer for many years. She graduated from Louisville High School as an honor student in 1985. She is definitely a Wildcat in achievements. She continued her education at Mary Holmes College with a full academic scholarship graduating in 1987 with an associate degree. This ‘Wildcat’ scurried on her way to graduate from Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL as Magna Cum Laude in 1989 on a full academic scholarship. Stillman is a private historically black Presbyterian college. She has a BA degree in Business Administration with a minor in accounting.
Jacqueline was the first African American female to work at Louisville’s Citizen Bank’s branch office from 1993 – 1996. She was the first African American female to work at East Mississippi Electric Power Association (EMEPA) in Louisville, MS. She has been there since 1996 until the present.
She is a member of Mt. Bell Baptist Church in Louisville; Pastor Dr. Anthony McIntosh and she plays the Keyboard. Jacqueline is the daughter of Oliver and Gloria Jernigan. She is married to James Hughes. She has one child, Kristy Jernigan and one grandson, Kai Clemons.
