Today is the last day for qualifying in the 2025 Municipal election races for the towns of Ackerman, Weir and French Camp.
Candidates who wish to run must turn in paperwork with signatures of all registered voters in their respective towns by 5 p.m. today.
So far, in the town of Ackerman, incumbent Mayor Dale Reid has qualified to run for a second term. And Reid will be facing opposition. Before press time, on Friday, January 24, candidate Lauren Carson announced on her Facebook page that she is running for mayor.
“I think we're all ready for a new and improved Ackerman and ready to see some renovations to our infrastructure and beautification of our town!” Carson wrote.
In French Camp, so far incumbent Mayor Glen Barlow has turned in paperwork to run again for another term.
In Weir, no one has turned in paperwork before press time, but City Clerk Cyndy Josey said people have picked up packets.
Primary elections, if needed, will take place on April 1 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and the General Election will take place on June 3.
Newly elected officials will be sworn in on July 1 or at their respective town meetings.
