Daughters in Choctaw County should get ready to spend a fun evening on the dance floor…with their dads. A daddy-daughter dance has become a seasonal Valentine’s event in the community thanks to Alfa Insurance: The Dakota Brasher Agency.
The dance will be Saturday, February 8 at the Choctaw County Community Center in Ackerman beginning at 6 p.m. with Jeremy Miller as DJ. The cost is $25 per couple (a father and a daughter) and includes refreshments. Dads with more than one daughter may pay an additional $5 per each attendee.
Agency owner Brasher believes the event is great for the community. For several years, proceeds from the event have helped the agency fund a hometown scholarship. To date, four graduating high school seniors have benefited. The recipients are selected based upon a two-page essay they have authored about what their hometown means to them. Applicants must reside in Choctaw County.
“We proudly award two recipients with $1,000 scholarships annually based on their essays, and we look forward to reading those submissions every year,” Brasher said.
Brasher and his wife Alison are Ackerman natives. Besides the Alfa agency, Brasher is a part owner of Koty Earl’s restaurant in downtown Ackerman.
Brasher always looks forward to the daddy-daughter dance, and the experience will become even more special for him soon. “I’ll have a new dance partner since my wife and I are expecting a daughter any day to join our 17-month-old son Cooper,” said Brasher.
