Voters in Webster County will go back to the polls next week to cast their ballot in runoff elections.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, for the three Republican Party runoffs. No Democratic primary runoffs are on the ballots in the county.
Only one runoff will be on ballots countywide, which is the open seat for chancery clerk. The candidates are Michael Kolb and Ken Norwood, each of whom received about 35% of the vote in the first primary on Aug. 8.
Democrat Regina Dean Reed will challenge the runoff winner in the November general election. Incumbent Russ Turner is retiring.
The other two runoffs will be decided next week. The figures in parentheses following the candidates’ names are the percentage of votes they received in the first primary.
Jason Burney (45%) is challenging incumbent Randy “Poochie” Rico (49%) for District 3 supervisor. This runoff will be on ballots in District 3 precincts only.
The third runoff is that for Justice Court judge Post 1. The candidates are Cody Carden (45%) and Donnie Wofford (37%). Incumbent Jerry Jones is retiring.
Precincts in Justice Court District 1 are part of Eupora No. 2 and Eupora No. 3, all of Mathiston No. 3, Mathiston No. 4, Maben, Big Black, Clarkson, Cumberland and Mantee.
Only those voters who cast their ballots in the Republican primary on Aug. 8 or who did not vote in the first primary can vote in the primary runoff election. In-person absentee voting continues through 5 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday.
