MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. -- A Mississippi State University Extension Service food safety specialist has been selected to serve on the Executive Advisory Board of the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance.
Juan Silva, who is also a professor in the MSU Department of Food Science, Nutrition and Health Promotion, was selected to the nine-member board from more than 90 candidates. The board guides prevention education regulations related to the Food Safety Modernization Act. Members are selected from industry, academia and government. He will serve a two-year term.
Silva is a trainer of trainers and leads the board’s international training network group. He also is a member of the board’s finance committee.
The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance was established in 2015 to oversee the creation and implementation of standardized education curricula, materials and classes used to train members of the food industry.
