Co-Med Adult Day Care Center has had a productive year thus far, and we anticipate growth for the remainder of the year. Our participants and staff have enjoyed activities, outings and special events. We have been active in participating in various community events such as the Red Hills Festival and Prairie Opportunity's Community Action Agency Day which were held May. We also attended Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project's Family Law Legal Clinic and East Mississippi Community College's Opportunity Happens Here Bash during the month of June. In July we attended the Day of Fun and Recruit with Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) and the National Caucus and Center on Black Aging, Inc. (NCBA) hosted by the Friends of Dean Park, Inc. One event that was the highlight of the summer, however, was the annual “Luau” which was held on July31, 2019.
Every year, we expose our participants to various cultural events that have a deep meaning for certain groups of people. Many of the customs and traditions of Hawaiians are reflected in our culture such as love for family and feast to celebrate life and prosperity. Being aware of the background and culture of other people besides ourselves is very important to the growth of our communities. Besides we learned new and delicious foods to eat. We even learned festive dances and music from the islands. We also had a contest for the best dressed male and females. Winners were:
Mrs. Willie Mae Coleman 1st place Mrs, Myrtle Thompson, Donnie Lane, and Mr. Clifford Roberson
During the month of October we will have our annual Young At Heart Pageant. Keeping our participants informed and involved in community events is an important aspect in improving their quality of life.
The following members of the community made our day special and we would like to give a special thanks to each guest. They included:
Sandra Cole, Nominee for ADC Advisory Board
Mary Austin Cole, Board Member
