Vaccine-resistant COVID-19 strain detected in Mississippi

A more infectious and vaccine-resistant variant strain of COVID-19 was detected in Mississippi on Friday. One person in Harrison County was found to be infected with the B.1.351 variant, which was discovered in South Africa in December and reached the United States in January.

Church Street in the city’s downtown had a portion barricaded Friday afternoon due to a sinkhole in the road.

While authorities received a call Friday afternoon about a large pothole on Church Street.

The sinkhole was more than 3 feet wide and appeared several feet deep.

Jodie Fannin was last seen Jan. 16, according to fliers posted around town by her husband, Del Fannin. She was still missing as of Monday, he confirmed to the Progress-Times.
