Choctaw County MLK, Jr. Legacy Parade

Holmes to offer Adult Ed classes in Eupora
Holmes Community College will begin offering Adult Education classes in Eupora at the Eupora Depot located 855 South Dunn Street beginning this spring. The Holmes Adult Education program will hold orientation for High School Equivalency (HSE) classes Feb. 24-26 at 8:30 a.m. Classes will be held Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Adult Basic Education (ABE) classes are open to the public for those who have not completed high school or wish to increase their functioning level to enter college, training or the job market. The Office of Adult Education at the Mississippi Community College Board is encouraging interested persons to get involved in the programs through their Skill UP Mississippi initiative. Through various programs such as Smart Start and High School Equivalency (HSE), Skill UP Mississippi is helping people launch careers, which in turn strengthens the state workforce and creates an opportunity for economic development. The programs at Holmes can help adults gain skills they need to be competitive in the job market and increase their earning potential.

Gas Metal Arc Welding
Location: Webster County Career & Technology Center – Eupora, MS Cost: $125.00 Meeting Days and Time: Tuesday, 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm Dates: February 4 – March 5, 2020 Instructor: Paul Orr Upon completion of this course, the participant should have an understanding of hazards of GMAW, how to set-up and maintain semi-automatic arc welding unit, and make satisfactory welds in flat, vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions. Will also cover the basics of oxy-fuel cutting.
Choctaw County has Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Freezer
Attention Hunters! Choctaw WMA Headquarters, located at 2121 Webster Road in Ackerman, now has a CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) freezer for deer. Hunters should remove antlers, just the head and about 6" of neck are needed. Instructions are provided at the site. You will receive results back in 1-2 weeks.
Walk A Weigh
Walk A Weigh is a health, nutrition and weight loss program which is held once a week for eight weeks. Workshop is January 13 through March 2 at 9:00am. Each class lasts about 1.5 hours and participants should attend all classes. Educational programs will be: reducing fat, reducing salt, understanding nutrition labels, making better decisions when eating out, importance of physical activity, setting goals, understanding serving sizes, MyPlate and more. Ackerman Silver Social Club (ages 50 and up)
The Silver Social Club is for men and women, ages 50 and up, in Choctaw County. The Silver Social Club meets every Monday morning from 9am-Noon at the Choctaw County Library. The patrons play dominoes, canasta, and a variety of card and board games. Come for the entire time or just part of the time. Coffee, hot tea and water are supplied by the library.
STEAM Club (ages 8-18)
The STEAM (Science/Technology/Engineering/Art/Mathematics) Club is for kids, ages 8-18, in Choctaw County. The STEAM club meets every Monday afternoon from 3:30pm-4:30pm at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman. The kids engage in a variety of different STEAM projects.
Exercise Class (all ages)
This free Exercise Class meets every Tuesday morning and Thursday morning at 10am at the Choctaw County Library in Ackerman. Patrons work-out to a video in the library’s meeting room.
