Evans (the Cheese Man) from the South Union Community will join us to educate and delight us with his career at the Herzer Dairy Science Building, the retail outlet operated by the MAFES Sales Store (Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station) where they make cheese and delicious ice cream which I am sure you have enjoyed when you came for the Christmas Open House at the Library every year. ACOG to hold Jubilee Homecoming
A SPECIAL DAY IS COMING! On Sunday, January 27, 2019 beginning at 10am, Ackerman Church of God will hold a Jubilee Homecoming service. ACOG will be celebrating their 50th year anniversary. Bishop Jimmy Smith, son of Bro. L.C. Smith, who founded ACOG, will be the guest speaker. Bishop Smith pastored the church for several years as well. There will be a covered dish lunch immediately following the special service. Please come and help ACOG celebrate fifty years of service to the Lord and community. Walk-A-Weigh, an award-winning program emphasizing the importance health, nutrition and physical activity. It is being offered by the MSU Extension -Choctaw County.
Walk-A-Weight will begin Monday, January 28 and two classes will be offered. The morning class at 9:00am and evening class at 5:30pm. Classes will meet each Monday through March 18.
Each session will feature an educational presentation and some sessions will include hands-on activities and/or sampling of a healthy recipe. Participants will also be encouraged to exercise, individually or as teams, between sessions.

Master Gardener certification
Master Gardener certification classes will be offered at MSU Extension - Choctaw County every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 - 5:00pm February 19 through March 28. Topics covered include: vegetables, fruits and nuts, weeds, invasive species, basic botany, plant diseases, soils, entomology, honey bee care, ornamentals, plant propagation and turfgrass. Cost is $100 which includes all materials (printed and digital), notebook, one year membership in the Mississippi Master Gardener Association, name badge and refreshments. Registration and $100 fee must be paid at the MSU Extension - Choctaw County office by February 1. After the classroom training, participants are considered a Master Gardener intern. Then, once they complete 40 hours of service to Choctaw County over a one year period, participant is considered a Master Gardener. Preschool Storytime at Choctaw Library
Preschool Storytime at the Ackerman Library every Tuesday at 10:30 AM. We will sing songs, read a book, and make a craft.
Enjoy music, refreshments and fun at the Longview Opry on Highway 12 in Longview every Saturday at 7 p.m. Talent is welcome. Admission is free.

Choctaw County has Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Freezer
Attention Hunters: Choctaw WMA Headquarters, located at 2121 Webster Road in Ackerman, now has a CWD (Chronic Wasting Disease) freezer for deer. Hunters should remove antlers, just the head and about 6" of neck are needed. Instructions are provided at the site. You will receive results back in 1-2 weeks.

Silver Social Club
The Silver Social Club meets every Monday morning at the Choctaw County Library from 9am-Noon. This is a free program offered by the library for everyone ages 55 and up. The patrons plays cards, dominoes, and board games. Come for the entire time or just part of the time. Coffee and water are supplied by the library..
