The rehiring of city employees was among items handled at the Eupora Board of Aldermen’s regular July meeting. When the board reached that July 2 agenda item, Robert Gibbs (Ward 4) made motions to consider going into and to enter into executive session for personnel discussion, which were approved.
A man missing in a rural area of Webster County was located Saturday afternoon through the efforts of a 911 dispatcher and first responders. Webster County Emergency Management Agency Director Barry Rushing said the man, whom he did not name, is from Clarkson and is 73.
The Webster County School District will conduct a budget hearing at 5 p.m. July 16 in the district office boardroom. The proposed budget for the district predicts $16.12 million in revenue for fiscal year 2018-19. Of that amount, 17.7 percent, or $2.85 million, is proposed to be financed through a total ad valorem tax levy.
A local man has been charged with a felony after authorities say he impregnated a juvenile. Larry S. “Bubba” Fountain Jr., 37, of Eupora is being held in the Webster County Jail on a charge of statutory rape.
A Democratic Senate runoff will be in two weeks between state Rep. David Baria of Bay St. Louis and Howard Sherman of Lauderdale County. Six Democrats ran for the U.S. Senate seat in the June 5 party primaries, and Baria and Sherman will face off for the nomination on June 26 because no one received more than 50 percent of the vote.
